From humble beginnings

From humble beginnings in 1988 with a little van operating from a shed in the back garden to having 2 strategic locations with over fifty thousand square feet of warehouse space, 3000 pallet spaces and over £1.5m worth of stock, all ready for next day delivery.

Based in Brentwood, Essex and Feltham, Middlesex. MSC are ideally suited to cover the majority of the south of England for next day delivery, in one of our new 18 strong delivery fleet, all of which are fully tracked for service delivery and sustainability.

From a Cow Shed to a Category Leader, A Family Legacy of Service, Supply & Sustainability

Long before MSC became a trusted name in the UK cleaning and hygiene supply industry, the Osborne family were already hard at work building relationships and solving real-world cleaning challenges. Originally founded as Maintenance Services, a contract cleaning business established by Ken Kennedy and later led by his son-in-law Lionel Osborne, the company held national cleaning contracts with major high street brands such as Radio Rentals, Rumbelows, and other household electrical retailers.

While delivering these contracts, Lionel noticed a recurring opportunity: clients often needed essential consumables like toilet rolls, soaps, and cleaning chemicals, but didn’t have an easy or reliable way to source them. Spotting the chance to streamline their customers’ operations and reduce costs, Lionel began supplying these items alongside cleaning services. It didn’t take long for this side of the business to outpace the original model, delivering faster growth, better margins, and greater client value.

Recognising the shift, in 1990, Lionel and his wife Lynn Osborne made the bold decision to form a new company: The Maintenance Supply Co Ltd. With a clear vision and entrepreneurial spirit, they took over an old cow shed on a small cattle farm, Codham Hall, just off Junction 29 of the M25, and turned it into the company’s first distribution base. That shed is where MSC began, and Codham Hall remains our home to this day.

A Legacy of Growth and Grit

What began with one converted unit soon expanded to two. Then came a much larger drying barn, followed by two additional storage units, and eventually a purpose-built office. In 2011, MSC consolidated its operations and moved into Unit C22, a modern 24,000 sq ft facility that now forms the heart of our Brentwood operation.

To meet increasing demand and reach more clients, MSC later added a second depot in Feltham, Middlesex, cementing our ability to serve London, the Home Counties, and nationwide clients with speed, precision, and care.

Generational Leadership & Family Values

MSC is more than a company, it’s a family legacy, passed from one generation to the next.

Ross Osborne, Lynn and Lionel’s eldest son, joined the business in 1997. He started in the warehouse and delivery van, before moving through sales order processing, accounts, and ultimately founding the Workwear Department. By 2010, Ross had taken over the day-to-day running of the business, driving innovation and growth with a modern, sustainability-led approach.

Kelly Osborne, their daughter, joined in 2001 and became an integral part of the accounts team, working closely with Lynn in what became the company’s financial engine room, where she remains to this day.

Max Osborne, the youngest sibling, joined in 2010 after a career playing professional cricket. He took charge of the growing Workwear Division, scaling it into one of MSC’s most successful and dynamic departments.

The Jangro Turning Point

One of the most defining moments in MSC’s history came in 1995, when Lionel made the decision to join a then-little-known buying group, Jangro. At the time, it was a leap of faith. Today, Jangro is the UK’s largest and most influential network of independent janitorial suppliers, and one of the major cornerstones of MSC’s continued success. Through Jangro, MSC has gained access to world-class supply chains, exclusive product lines, and unmatched industry knowledge, giving our clients the best of both worlds: national strength and local service.
